With a furious storm of thundering congas and the deep boom of the KALETA drum, the Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble takes the stage with an explosion of dance rhythms. Akoya is comprised of musicians from 6 countries, spanning 4 continents! Our lead singer, Kaleta, performed and recorded with the legendary founder of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti for many years. At our upcoming Southpaw show, we will have 15 Akoyans on stage — 6 horns, 5 percussionists, 10 singers. Prepare yourself for one of the toughest live bands in town.

“Get ready to sweat away those Thanksgiving Day calories at November’s installment of Another Scorcher. This night is extra special because we are having our very first female guest dj! We are excited to welcome aboard the wheels of steel, Mademoiselle Sucette, who will be dishing sweet 6ts french tunes. Resident DJs, Miss Gemini and Ursa Major will be scorching the turntables with heavy Reggae & Soul alongside a healthy dose… of smooth rocksteady. Once again, get your loafers and livers ready for what will be the beginning of an epic weekend. The saga continues at Brooklyn Fireproof with DTAWDD/SPQR on Sat and ends with The Templars at Webster Hall on Sun.
As always, our lovely bartenders will be serving up delicious cocktails, ice cold imports and tasty treats.. The Whiskey Sours and the Sidecare are one of Miss Gemini’s faves.. But be advised: Do not try them on an empty stomach.. If you didn’t overstuff your body from your Thanksgiving feast, I once again recommend the infamous mac n’ cheese prior to any consumption of the cocktails (they are potent).
Lastly, SAVE THE DATE for New Years Eve bc Another Scorcher will be bringing in 2011 at Huckleberry Bar! Spread the word and we will see you next weekend!”
