RIP Leonard Dillon, Reggae pioneer & lead singer for the Ethiopians
September 29th, 2011 · No Comments
“Leonard Dillon, the leader of the pioneering reggae group, The Ethiopians, has died in Jamaica at the age of 68.
Dillon began his career using the stage name, Jack Sparrow, in the early 1960s.
He recorded a series of ska songs, including Bull Whip, which featured a young Bob Marley on backing vocals.
Dillon later formed The Ethiopians, a trio whose best known hits were Train to Skaville and Everything Crash.
His daughter, Patrice Dillon, says her father died on Wednesday at her home of lung and prostate cancer.
She says Dillon had been diagnosed with cancer in June and underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour earlier this year.
Dillon is survived by seven children.”

Aug. 26th Another Scorcher farewell party and Philly Rig’s Bday Celebration
August 16th, 2011 · No Comments
Friday, August 26 10pm
@
Huckleberry bar
588 Grand St
Brooklyn, NY
“With heavy hearts, Miss Gemini and Ursa Major must announce that Another Scorcher will be having it’s final run on the wheels of steel at Huckleberry Bar this month. It will be a bittersweet night because it also happens to be our two year anniversary at Huckleberry and Philly Rig’s birthday celebration. We will miss Huckleberry’s CLEANLILNESS, the sunken dancefloor, it’s awesome selection of drinks and one of a kind, mac n’ …cheese. Although some might have thought Huckleberry was somewhat pricey or pretentious, we felt fortunate to play some of the classiest tunes out there at a super classy venue.
We might be temporarily homeless but we will be back soon enough, any suggestions for future venues are welcome. Once again, we would like to thank every single one of you for making Another Scorcher the best Reggae & Soul party running in NYC! We couldn’t have done it without you and are looking forward to seeing each one of you at our farewell and Philly Rig’s Birthday celebration!!” – Miss Gemini and Ursa Major
